In 1865, when James and Jacob Wagner returned from the Civil War, they founded the company that would become Ohio Awning & Manufacturing Company—originally Wagner Awning & Tents. At first, the brothers specialized in tents, sails, and bags. But they soon expanded into awnings. From the beginning, Wagner Awning & Tents has been industrious and innovative, patenting designs that made awnings easier to use. Working out of their factory on the West side of Cleveland, Wagner Awning & Tents manufactured residential and commercial awnings for customers. They even produced tents for the U.S. Government during World War II, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War. In the early 1990’s, Wagner Awning & Tents changed its name to Ohio Awning & Manufacturing Company. The Wagner spirit of innovation continues to drive Ohio Awning forward more than 150 years later.

The Ohio Awning & Manufacturing Company carries the 19th-century legacy forward into the 21st century. Having recently moved from its Scranton Road location after 85 years, Ohio Awning now operates out of 5777 Grant Avenue in Slavic Village.
